Welcome to the Teri Bell Art Contests!
Someone, somewhere, probably told you that you were terrible at art. They were wrong.
This is a fast, silly, skill-based art competition where creativity beats perfection. No art degree required. No expensive supplies required. If you can't draw a stick figure, congratulations: you may have found your people.
Make something. Follow the rules. Have fun. Maybe win some money. Help support accessible employment and housing programs.
Teri Bell Arts Contest – Official Rules & Regulations
The Teri Bell Art Contest is a skill-based contest and is not a lottery, raffle, or game of chance.
Winners are selected based on their ability to successfully complete the contest requirements, follow instructions, and demonstrate creativity according to the judging criteria established for each contest.
Judging criteria will vary between contests and may include creativity, humour, originality, resourcefulness, interpretation of the prompt, environmental stewardship, craftsmanship, storytelling, absurdity, or other factors announced as part of the contest rules.
Contestants who fail to follow contest instructions, submission requirements, deadlines, material restrictions, or eligibility requirements may be disqualified without refund.
Entry fees are non-refundable except in the event that a contest is cancelled by the organizers.
Artists retain ownership of their original work. By entering the contest, participants grant the Teri Bell Arts Collective a perpetual, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to photograph, reproduce, publish, display, and promote submitted entries for contest administration, educational purposes, marketing, fundraising, social media, and promotional activities.
This contest exists to encourage creativity, absurdity, community, and environmental responsibility. Respectful conduct is required at all times. Art skills are not required to participate.
Contest proceeds help support the programs and projects of the Teri Bell Arts Collective, including accessible employment opportunities, arts education, environmental stewardship initiatives, and accessible housing projects.
1. Eligibility
The Teri Bell Art Contest ("Contest") is open to legal residents of jurisdictions where such contests are permitted by law.
Contest is void where prohibited by law. Unfortunately residents of Quebec are not eligible to participate.
Participants must be 18 years of age or older at the time of entry. Participants or winners may be required to provide proof of age or identity if eligibility is questioned. Failure to provide requested verification may result in disqualification.
Youth, aged 13–17, may participate only through a parent or legal guardian (18+), who must submit the entry and accept these rules on their behalf.
Certain contests may require participants to use their legal name or verified identity for eligibility and prize purposes. Please be assured that your deadname is safe with us, but we are required to operate within the scope of any applicable laws.
All contests are hosted and administered in English. Participants do not need perfect English. We care more about effort, creativity, and following the instructions than grammar or spelling.
Teri Bell Art Contests celebrates human creativity, human mistakes, human weirdness, and human imagination. Artificial intelligence (AI) generated submissions are prohibited. No AI-generated images, text, poems, stories, designs, videos, or other creative works may be submitted. Make your own terrible art.
Participants confirm that submissions are their original work and do not knowingly violate the rights of others.
All submissions must be created in physical form. Even written submissions such as poems, stories, jokes, or lists must be physically written, printed, assembled, or otherwise placed onto a tangible medium and photographed for submission. (Teri Bell Art Contest Portfolio Journals are available - support disabled artists when you buy one!)
Digital-only submissions will not be accepted unless specifically permitted for an artist’s accessibility. Accessibility accommodations are always welcome. If you need an alternative submission format to participate, please contact us.
Participants are expected to treat organizers, volunteers, judges, sponsors, fellow contestants and audience members respectfully. Harassment, intimidation, abuse, threats, discrimination, stalking, or disruptive conduct may result in immediate disqualification and permanent exclusion from future contests.
Employees, volunteers, judges, sponsors, and immediate family members of the Teri Bell Arts Collective may be subject to additional restrictions at the sole discretion of the organizers.
Rules are subject to change. Rules may be updated for future contests. Any changes affecting an active contest will be communicated to participants.
2. Contest Format
The Contests are skill-based arts competitions that invite the creation of physical media. The Teri Bell Arts Contest celebrates handmade, human-created art. Unless otherwise specified, submissions must be physical creations made by you.
Each contest will feature unique instructions, themes, timelines, materials, judging criteria, and prize structures. By entering, participants agree to follow the specific rules announced for each individual contest.
Most contests are designed to be completed within approximately 5–10 minutes.
3. Entry Fees
Entry fees will generally be $5.00 (and up to $10.00) CAD per entry.
Shipping fees, when applicable, do not count toward prize monies.
Payment must be made through approved methods (Square).
Cash payments are not accepted.
Entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable.
Entry fees support the operation of the Teri Bell Arts Collective, including accessible employment and housing initiatives.
4. Multiple Entries
Participants may enter as many times as they wish unless otherwise stated in a specific contest announcement.
Each valid entry will be judged independently.
5. Prizes
Unless otherwise stated:
One qualified winner per contest will receive a maximum cash prize of $50 CAD. The winner's prize will generally be equal to 50% of total entry fees collected, up to a maximum prize value of $50 CAD, unless otherwise announced.
Additional prizes may be awarded depending on the total number of entries received, sponsorships, donations, or special promotions. Additional prizes are not guaranteed and may be offered at the discretion of organizers.
Prize values and quantities may vary between contests.
6. Odds of Winning
The odds of winning depend entirely on:
The number of eligible entries received; (minimum 1 in 20, up to a maximum of 1 in 50)
The quality of submitted work;
The judging process established for the specific contest.
No purchase or entry guarantees a prize.
Players are limited to a maximum of 4 prizes per month, in 4 separate contests.
7. Judging
Entries will be reviewed and scored by members of the Teri Bell Arts Collective and guest artists.
Judges may consider factors including, but not limited to:
Creativity
Interpretation of the challenge
Originality
Humour or absurdity
Craftsmanship
Effective use of materials
Overall impact
Judges' decisions are final.
8. Winner Restrictions
To avoid actual or perceived conflicts of interest, the following individuals are not eligible to win prizes:
Blood relatives of the Creative Director; especially but not limited to their stalkerbrother.
Relatives (of the collective), including by marriage, adoption, or common-law partnership.
Individuals residing in the same household as members of the collective.
Individuals whom the organizers reasonably determine to have a close familial relationship that could compromise the fairness of the contest. Failure to disclose a conflict of interest may result in disqualification, forfeiture of prizes, removal from future contests, and/or be potentially liable for any damages.
Organizers reserve the right to disqualify entries where a conflict of interest may exist.
9. Prize Limits
An individual participant may submit multiple entries but may receive a maximum of one prize per calendar week (four per month) unless otherwise specified.
If multiple winning entries are submitted by the same participant within the same week, the organizers reserve the right to award the highest-value prize and redraw or re-award the remaining prize(s).
10. Prize Distribution
Cash prizes will generally be distributed through:
PayPal; or
Interac e-Transfer (Canada only).
Winners are responsible for ensuring their payment information is accurate.
The organizers are not responsible for delays caused by payment providers. Winners are responsible for claiming income and paying any taxes as applicable. Prizes will be issued within 1-2 weeks of each contest.
11. Materials
Contest materials may be:
Provided in person;
Mailed to participants; or
Limited to common household and art supplies.
Examples may include:
Paper
Pens
Pencils
Markers
Coloured pencils
Tape
Glue
Scissors
Recycled materials
Art scraps or other approved materials
Specific supply requirements will be announced for each contest.
12. Facebook Group & Communication Requirements
Contests may require participation through the official Teri Bell Art Contest Facebook Group - or other designated social media channels.
Participants may be required to:
Join designated groups;
Follow designated social media accounts;
Respond to organizer communications within stated deadlines.
Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of prizes.
Participants are encouraged to use their real names for identification and prize verification purposes.
13. Pop-Up Contest Booths
The Teri Bell Arts Collective may host temporary in-person contest booths, events, festivals, fairs, or pop-up locations. Rules announced at the booth form part of the contest requirements.
Cash payments are not accepted at (most) pop-up locations. This is for the safety of our vendors and participants. The digital paper trail ensures transparency and accessible record keeping.
14. Public Display of Entries
By entering, participants grant the Teri Bell Arts Collective a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, photograph, publish, promote, and archive submitted entries online and in promotional materials.
Artists retain ownership of their original work unless otherwise agreed in writing.
15. Conduct
Participants must conduct themselves respectfully.
Harassment, threats, discrimination, stalking, abuse, intimidation, or disruptive behaviour directed toward organizers, judges, volunteers, sponsors, other participants or audience members may result in:
Immediate disqualification;
Removal from online groups or events;
Forfeiture of prizes; and/or
Permanent exclusion from future contests.
16. Organizer Rights
All decisions made by the organizers are final. The Teri Bell Arts Collective reserves the right to:
Modify contest dates, prizes, rules, or procedures;
Cancel or suspend contests;
Reject incomplete, fraudulent, offensive, or inappropriate entries;
Verify participant eligibility;
Interpret these rules and resolve disputes.
Rules may be updated for future contests. Any changes affecting an active contest will be communicated to participants.
17. Acceptance of Rules
Participation constitutes the participant's full and unconditional agreement to these Official Rules and any contest-specific instructions announced by the organizers.
